Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to have practical shooting experience to attend?

No, however you should be familiar with basic gun safety and the four critical firearm safety rules:

1 - Treat all firearms as if they are loaded at all times.

2 - Always point your firearm in a safe direction.

3 - Keep your finger outside of the trigger guard until you are ready to fire.

4 - Know your target, what is beyond and your safety angles.

Any shooting experience, particularly using a shotgun would be advantageous, even if it is just a stag party type clay pigeon shoot, but it is not essential.

Do I need to have a Firearm or Shotgun Certificate to attend?

The short answer is no. There are exemptions in law which permit a non-certificate holder to be in possession of a shotgun and cartridges. You should let us know before you attend if you require a gun/ammunition. All shooting, regardless of experience is carried out under the supervision of a Range Officer (RO). If you have limited experience or don't have a certificate you will be provided with basic training and will be chaperoned.

Please note: Anyone who has ever received a prison sentence (suspended or served) of 3 years or more is prohibited for life from being in possession of any kind of firearm or ammunition. Providing you have not received a prison sentence of 3 months or more you can sign a Section 21 Declaration and borrow a gun from a certificate holder.

Is there an age limit?

We would ask that any person under the age of 18 be accompanied by a parent/guardian/responsible adult. While it is possible for children to lawfully shoot a shotgun, it should be noted that we use 12 bore shotguns that have substantial recoil to those not used to it and weigh 6-9lbs, as such a certain level of strength is required.

Do I need to be physically fit to attend?

While practical shotgun is a more dynamic shooting sport you do not need to be particularly fit to partake. We have shooters from 18 to near 80 and of all levels of fitness.

Do you only cater for competitive shooters?

No. While we do encourage people to grow and improve in the sport, providing you are safe, you can keep to whatever level of competition, or just having fun as you are comfortable with.

How do I come along to watch or take part?

Simple! Fill in the form below or email us direct. Please include your full name, age and details of what, if any, shooting experience you have.
